Alternative Accommodation

in Australia

House Boats - are very popular for Australians to own and live on, or rent for small holidays. There are many houseboats of varying prices and sizes. They are completely equipped with everything you need to have a great time with family or friends. They can accommodate between 4 and 12 people depending on the size of the boat - and they come complete with a refrigerator, kitchen, TV, Video, bathroom with hot shower, living room and some even have air conditioning. The electricity is generated by solar panels and a petrol generator. They are propelled by one or more outboard motors, and of course their navigation is slow and therefore not fit to go into open water. They are recommended for the numerous canals, bays, and estuaries. During high season, prices are about A$ 800 for one week rent, which is not bad at all if you share the cost with between 8 people. There are many places to rent houseboats and tourist information kiosks in every city will be able to recommend one to!
you.

Note: The houseboat on the top of the page is a church that specialises in weddings on the Gold Coast.

Bed and Breakfasts' are short stays in an Australian family home that has been converted to an accommodation house. You get one room only for yourself, usually with a bathroom (ensuite). Linen and breakfast are supplied and included in the price. Prices starts at A$ 40 per day. Getting a good one will depend on luck! You can get one where the family are so happy to have you, that they tell you their whole family history since the Jurassic era and are a pain in the ass. On the other hand, if you lucky enough, you can get really funny and enjoyable people that make you want to stay a month, and consider adopting their family as your own! They are very popular for single ladies and families without kids.

Farm stays are growing in popularity a lot in Australia. You can choose what kind of farm you want; cattle, sheep, corn plantation and so on. Also, if you want to, you can participate in the farm's daily work helping the owner with their tasks. If you feel lazy, and just want to relax and enjoy the calm view that's also allowed!. One of the greatest things about a farm stay is the food, usually produced on the farm and with a taste that will stay with you forever. The best thing is: the price includes 3 meals a day!. The owners will be your hosts and are always ready to talk about your culture and learn from theirs. Prices starts at A$ 180 for 3 days and 2 nights. Normally, the farmers will pick you up ot the road that takes you to the farm, or at a bus station in the town. Again, tourist information all over Australia hast a list of farms in the region that can host you.
