Backpacker Hostels in Australia are found in every Australian city in large numbers with many different facilities. They are the number one choice for thousands of people from all over the world who travel Australia annually. They are the cheapest form of accommodation after camping grounds. There are people from all ages and backgrounds staying in backpackers making it very multicultural. One of the greatest advantages of using a backpacker hostel is the fact that you don't have to carry any camping gear with you which can lighten your load considerably!  Basic accommodation consists of shared or collective rooms which will sleep between 3 to 8 people. Usually, everybody respects everybody, and the backpackers have some noise restriction rules, especially after 10 pm. In case you don't get along very well with your room's mates, you can ask to change rooms if available. There are rooms only for women, rooms only for men, and mixed. In some establishments you don't have to pay extra for linen, but in others, a small fee is charged. As you see, every backpacker hostel is different, and will depend on its facilities and set up plus the services each one offers to you. There are lockers to place your valuables in, for an extra charge, and it is advisable to keep your money there. Remember that despite Australia being a very safe place, you will probably share a room with unknown people from all over the globe. It is just a matter of caution. Some backpackers offer also a double bed or individual room, but in these cases the prices are also higher.

Many Backpackers Hostels have a social area with tables, bars, and even a restaurant. The food and prices are usually good with some interesting options every day. Most of them have a community kitchen where you can prepare your culinary successes or create that disaster that nobody but you will touch! Some are equipped with games room, ping pong tables, snooker, darts, cable TV, and good information about the many tourism programs in the area. By asking at the reception desk you may also find organized local tours which are very convenient, fun and cheaper doing it alone. Some backpackers hostels pick you up and drop you off for free from and to the airport, bus station, train station etc. Some even have a list of farm work and other jobs available in the region.
